Why is it so difficult to please Cameroonians…

Why does it seem like Cameroonians are crafted to be an ungrateful and difficult specie of human beings. So much that when they ask for an arm and you give it to them they would complain of you not adding your leg to the arm.

For some time now, a particular argument centered around music genres has been circulating on the 237 entertainment circle especially from fans and influencers who claim that Cameroonian artist copy alot and are not original in their arts/creativity.
Some say Cameroonian artist need to go back to the roots of it’s music originality/genre which was the reason why they were globally recognized in the first place.

Within and out of African boarders when the name Cameroon is mentioned in a music related conversation, makossa music is the first thing that comes to mind. Which legendary manu dibango, petite pays, Ben Decca, grace Decca and alot more took to international stages and headlined shows. But today, as urban music evolved, other genres like afrobeat, afropop seems to have taken the lead in the Cameroon entertainment circle. So much so that even when artist from this side does an afrobeat song and doesn’t make much streaming numbers from their music, the next thing you see other the comments is. They are not original and they copy from Nigeria that is why their views/streams are low.

Ok. Let’s talk about.
Sango Edi

More popularly known by his beat tag “Draeboi”, Mr ‘Sango’ Edi Mesumbe M. who is a top notch music producer and songwriter who arts/craft go way back from 2014 has worked with many A-LIST artist like Nabila, Versace, Ebako, Melinda Swan, mic monsta, Crispy, Salatiel, Korede Bello, Stanley Enow and many more

Sango edi currently is the modernizing the old school makossa/highlife sound to a sensational urban makossa type music. Which appeals to the ears of all age groups(young & Old) with songs like moukanjo, Kwalaba , o’dodi, on SE verra and many others. He even has an E.P titled “Engeleh Nye poh” crafted to push this same genre which was bestowed on Cameroonians by the forefathers

But the question is. How good are the streaming numbers? How good are the YouTube views?
Sango edi used to do rap music and his production for trap beats are just so amazing but yet, he went back to the drawing board to recreate Urban makossa. Is it that he’s lyrical composition isn’t good? Ofcourse not. Then why isn’t he gaining the attention that he is supposed to. Or are Cameroonian just secretly enjoying what’s popping and yet complaining on social media on the lack of originality in Cameroonian music.?
Phillbill is doing amazing works with his new creation “afro bitkossa” which is a blend of afrobeats, bikutsi and makossa. And truth be told, this has proven to be an excellent research well done. As Cameroonians enjoy and dance to songs like Shabasiko, la cle. But the question now is how many artist are even jumping on this beats? How many producers are recreating it?

I urge you to go listen to Sango edi E.P which was released early this year and then you can come back and comment whether or not… Originality is inbuilt in this project
