Sounds come and they go..

Sounds come and they go..
Genres trend and they fade..

Did you know that some countries in the world are trying to kick against afrobeats penetration into their music space? Did you also know that some afrobeats artist are not being accepted or approved of to perform on certain platforms or nominated in certain award ceremonies because of their genre?

Let’s talk.
Music they say is a global language that can be understood by the masses. Regardless of where so ever the sound originates from. And it is also important to note that music genres as many as they exist across the world, act like a religion and have evangelist (artist) who preach and push the movement with a particular and similar concept.

Yester years. Hip hop was the leading genre across all continents. This genre penetrated deep deep into countries which the artist themselves had no clue their music had gone that far. Rappers like 2pac, lil Wayne, jazzy, etc were the admiration of all young and growing kids. The concept of the music spoke about gangster life, street huzzle, drugs and alcohol. And the dressing code and lifestyle was what African youths copied and implemented. Before hip hop the world enjoyed classic music and it look along time with financial push for hip hop to gain global recognition on billboards and award shows.

Raggae music also had its finest hours from the creators like bob Marley, lucky dube untill it evolved into raggae dancehall music originating from Jamaica. This genre took over the world music space and caused many to dig in as a form of research to find out which small country could produce something magnificent like this and is now the envy of all. Many top ranking artist like Rihanna had to even sample the instrumentations on some songs. It was a hard push and today raggae music is global recognized and Carries festivals all around the globe and even a day in celebration of their legendary bob Marley.

Today we are in an era of afrobeats (music originating from Africa). Though Africa is being blessed with many genres like makossa, highlife music, coupe decale, afrobeat, amapiano etc. It is still an undeniable fact that the Nigerian afrobeat standouts dominant amongst all in Africa at the moment.
But because of intense competition many feel threatened it’s fast growth and penetration into other parts of the world. And many hip-hop artists see it as a threat as they see top Nigeria artist filling up arenas and stadiums they are unable to. While others like the Chris brown, Beyonce etc have chosen to sample the beats and collaborate with it’s leading artist..

No sounds trends forever. Few years ago it was Nigerian afrobeat and thanks to sleepless nights of hardwork their artist are been nominate at the Grammys. Now it’s an era of amapiano from south Africa, thanks to the social media networks like TikTok the sound has made many fast rising artist to blow in a very short space of time easily because it is a sound that brings an electrifying and irresistible dance step to go with it. Leading Nigerians artist, Tanzania, congo, Kenya, Cameroon are hoping on this sound. Music analyst speculate that in 5years from now. Amapiano will be the leading afrobeats sound from Africa penetrating the hearts of every nation.
….
Knowledge: what makes a sound number 1. When it has a continental push it definitely gets dominance. Reasons why some of the finest from Cameroon are bringing out something fresh and creative not to preach drugs, gangster life, weed or club parades but to export culture into urban lamplight. Talking about Phillbill with his spectacular creativity on sampling makossa from legendary manu dibango, bikutsi, dombollo and others to give birth to what he terms “afro bitkossa”. Songs from this experiment like Shabasiko and la cle are making waves in and around french Africa countries, not forgetting the north west tribal representative Witty Minstrel who is championing a movement of njang branded artist into “afro njang” for export. This particular genre has in a short time proven to be a must watch as many artist such Shey Lontum Yov , Vernyuy Tina , Magasco , are making hits from the samplings of it’s instrumentations.

Do you think Cameroon has what it takes to be number 1 with a leading genre in Africa and the world? Well. We will leave that for you to decide but one thing is for sure. One tree doesn’t make a forest. Many rappers had to do hip-hop and push it to take the lead, many had to jump on Jamaican raggae music for it to take the lead, same for Nigerian afrobeat and fast rising south Africa amapiano..

It is Africans hour.
No hate all we need is more hands to push the afrobeats (afrobeat, amapiano, afronjang, afro bitkossa, etc) movement
