Not all hit songs are good songs and not all good songs are hit song

Something you should know.
“Not all good songs are hits. And not all hits are good songs”

Let’s make this write up short and simple. What are the characteristics of what’ you quantify a good song to be.
Definitely on lyrics.
Lyrics gives you the concept of a song and make you imagine visuals in your head even when listening to the song in a audio format.
Also the melody, harmony and beats/instrumentals.

But despite the fact that a song might possess this characteristics that doesn’t guarantee the fact that It becomes a hit. Most good songs take longer time before the are considered hits(numbers on streams,views). A good song can take a upto a year+ before it clocks it first 1million views. While hit songs are songs of the moment which skyrockets it’s numbers to millions of views in a space of 1month but after a year, those numbers might not climb up again as compared to a good song.
You will agree with me that better boyfriend by Ambe still sounds fresh and cool to listen now compared to Ambe-Vitesse which was a hit. Mind you all this songs are more than 2years old but they possess a different feel anytime it’s been played.

Let’s look at songs like FAP KOLO by Mr. Leo – Artist x Salatiel , Sawa Romance by LOCKO , Caro by ko-c, Daphne E.N. jusqua la gare, tzy Panchak-stay with me.
These are good of which from their time of release didn’t have an explosive streaming numbers or views but up till today..these songs seem timeless. It’s like a product without an expiring date. Fans will still sing it at a relaxation atmosphere and at the club anytime any day.

Now let’s look at hits.
Why is it that not all hits are good songs yet they are framed as hits? Why are some good songs which catching melodies and vocals not framed as hits at the moment?

Trend.
The answer is trend📈
Artist make club bangers sometimes and decide to release only in December. Because it is a party and festivals season but does December last forever? Definitely not.
Asides that, we,ve had international hits like Franko- Coller la petite, maahlox- CA sort comme CA sort, KO-C CA cuit, Ambe-Vitesse.
Olamide-Wo, wizkid-soco, davido-Skelewu, AY POYO- I’m a goat, big Shaq-man’s not hot and many more..

These are songs we can’t qualify as good songs neither can we say they were bad songs. But we qualify them as SFTM (SONGS FOR THE MOMENT). You will agree that if you are on an outing and any of these songs are played, definitely you will recognize the fact that they were hits but it definitely won’t sound fresh in your ears why? Because they were SFTM and new SFTM have been released. If a dj plays Olamide-Wo, wizkid-soco, davido-Skelewu now it is very likely that someone out of the audience will match up to him and ask. Dj don’t you have oxlade-ku lol sa, rema -calm down, ruger-girlfriend etc..

Why do you think the person would do that.? Because the songs are SFTM. And they are currently on trend 📈

BUT that not withstanding. There also exist good songs that are timeless and they become immediate trends after their release. Talking about beautiful hits like Salatiel Sala’a Anita, Wizkid – ojuelegba, Tzy Panchak Na so remix, and many more…
